Drew and Tyler Ernst

Drew has become good friends with Tyler Ernst. They have similar personalities and play really well together. It is such a blessing to have a playmate for Drew.

Grayson's language takes off

Grayson has been pretty advanced in his speaking but in the last month or 2, he as starting to speak in full sentences. He will say, "Where daddy go?", "I don't want it.", or "Mommy, I need you."

Drew and Grayson call each other D

For some reason Drew likes to call Grayson "D". We aren't sure why, but now Grayson calls Drew "D" also. We suggested that Drew call Grayson "G", which would make more sense, but that didn't work.

Drew has 2 imaginary friends

Drew has a very vivid imagination. He is able to imagine just about anything with no problem, so I wasn't a bit surprised when he told me one day about his imaginary friends, Jack and Andrew. So far he has played pirate baseball with them outside and watched a Reds game with them on the steps leading to our upstairs.

Drew gives up his blankie

We had been preparing Drew for weeks before his 4th birthday that it was time to get rid of his blankie. On the day of his birthday, he threw them in the trash can outside. He did not cry, but it took him a few weeks to learn to go to sleep with out it. We think that he has stopped sucking his 2 fingers when he sleeps, but we aren't for sure.

Grayson has a sweet side

There are times when Grayson can be rough by hitting or pushing. There are other times when he can be quite sweet and gentle. This morning he sat on my lap and cuddled. He is such a busy little boy, so I take all the cuddling I can get.

Grayson is Curious George

Grayson is my Curious George. I call him Chi-chi, which is kind of a monkey name and he has similar qualities to this character. "He is a good little monkey, but always very curious." That is my Grayson. He is quite sneaky and somewhat deviant.

Drew lines

Drew says some pretty funny things and I try to get them written down so that someday I can tell him. The other day he was acting rough and he said this about himself: "I'm kind of rough sometimes." Of course, he said it in a real serious voice, but it made me laugh.

When we were going to bed one night he told me that he liked "my touch." I asked him if that meant when I cuddled with him and he said yes. It was quite sweet. He also told me a few times that he "likes" me when we are saying prayers. So sweet!!!

Drew is learning to read

I have been teaching Drew how to read through the Hooked on Phonics reading series. He is doing very well. He knows the letter sounds and is learning to put 3 letter, short vowel words together. This is quite fun for me, since I really enjoy ono-on-one teaching. He enjoys it, but he really enjoys being able to watch TV afterwards. I reward him with educational shows like: WordWorld, Peep and the Big Wide World, Sesame Street, and Between the Lions. I use these shows as simply another teaching tool.

One of Drew's favorite things is to be read to or told a made-up story. Some of his favorites are: Berenstein Bears, Franklin, and Curious George

Drew and Grayson becoming playmates

I have been looking forward to the day when my boys would play together and it is starting to happen. They enjoy rough housing, baseball, hide and seek, etc. They are, of course, learning how to share, which is a challenge for them and me. Grayson has an especially difficult time, but is starting to understand that he has to take turns. Grayson loves to copy whatever Drew does. Drew likes to Grayson "Dewy", which he made up. Drew is constantly living in the pretend world. He has an extensive imagination and he enjoys making up words. I have caught him talking to himself, which I find quite funny.

Reds Baseball Game

Drew and Quentin went to a Reds Baseball game yesterday. This was Drew's first major league game. He had a good time, but it was quite hot. He is not getting more interested in playing baseball with daddy.

Drew learns about 2 different companies

The other day Drew was asking me about where his dad worked. I told he worked for a company that makes engines for big trucks. Then he asked me what a company was. I told him that is place that makes things and then sells them. He said, "Company is when people come over." I got a good laugh out of it and then explained that there are 2 types of company.

Drew and Grandpa Go Fishing

Drew was able to go fishing with Grandpa Gail while we were up for a visit this past weekend. He caught a few blue gill. He also learned how to fly fish. As he was getting ready to go out and fly fish, Quentin said, "Catch a big one, Drew." Drew said with a puzzled look, "A big fly?" Kids do say the funniest things.

About Drew

Drew is 3 and half and has an amazing imagination. He loves to engage in pretend play all day every day. His newest thing is to have us make up a story instead of simply reading to him. Thankfully, he still loves to be read to as well. There are times I can't think of a creative story.

He loves to have mommy, daddy, or grandma play with him. He also loves to be held. Physical touch could be the way he knows he is loved.

Daddy tries to encourage him to learn to play baseball or basketball, but he isn't real interested right now. He just recently got interested in riding a big wheel.

He enjoys playing with his Cars movie cars (Chick Hicks(his favorite), Lightning McQueen, Sally, Mater, etc). He also enjoys his dinosaurs, zoo animals, and Thomas trains.

Transition back to Indiana

We have been staying with my parents since Easter. The boys have been having so much fun spending time with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We should be moving into a new house at the beginning of June.
